PROACTIVE PERSONALITY MEDIATES PARENTAL SUPPORT AND CAREER DECISION MAKING SELF EFFICACY IN 10th GRADE
Abstract
This research examined whether proactive personality acts as a link between parental support and career decision-making self-efficacy among Grade 10 students. A quantitative method was adopted, and information was gathered through a survey. This investigation included 341 Grade 10 students from high schools in Yogyakarta city. The sample were selected using the cluster random method. Data were collected through the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE) Scale, the Career-Related Parent Support Scale (CRPS), and the Proactive Personality Scale (PPS). The instruments' quality was tested through content and criterion validity assessments. Their consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's Alpha, producing reliability values of 0.872 for CDMSE, 0.920 for CRPS, and 0.890 for PPS. The multiple regression analysis was used for the collected samples. This study indicates that both parental support and career decision-making self-efficacy are affected by additional variables. The results also confirmed partial mediation, showing that proactive personality explains part of the relationship between parental support and career decision-making self-efficacy. Including proactive personality in the model increased the explained variance from 21.7% to 51.1%.
